Desktop icon position saver (ShellToys XP Extras)
This tool does just what you'd expect: it saves the positions of your desktop icons to file, and can restore them to the same positions with a button-click. If you're in the habit of changing screen resolutions, or you use one of those Windows versions that rearranges your desktop unexpectedly from time to time, this is what you've been looking for.

By checking this box, ShellToys XP adds a new page to the Display Properties applet in Control Panel. To use it, just right-click the desktop, choose Properties, and switch to the Desktop Icons tab. If you don't want to use this feature, you can remove the page from Display Properties by unchecking this box.

You can save any number of desktop layouts. Each is stored in a separate file, in the same user folder used by Add To Templates. The design of this feature means that most of the time you can simply click the Save or Restore buttons without changing anything else.

To save the current icon positions:
By default, the name of the layout file is based on your current screen resolution ('800x600', '1024x768', etc). To save using this name just click the Save button. If you already have a layout file with this name, it will be replaced.

Alternatively you can click the Custom option and type your own choice of name. In this case, if a file with that name already exists a prompt will ask if you want to replace it.

Whenever you save a layout file, the contents of the drop-down list in the Restore section are automatically updated.

To restore the icon positions from file:
As above, the default option is to restore using a file named after the current screen resolution (if you've previously created one using the Save option). To use this layout file, just click Restore.

To restore from a different file, click the Other option and select the file to use from the drop-down list.
